Title: ROAD KILL
Genre: Horror, Thriller, Sci-Fi
Starring: Bob Morley, Sophie Lowe, Georgina Haig
Year: 2013
The Plot
Four young friends are driving through the middle of the Australian Outback on a camping trip. Marcus (Xavier Samuel) and Craig (Bob Morley) are best friends, but for some reason Marcus doesn't hold a grudge against him for sleeping with his girlfriend, Liz (Georgina Haig). Instead, he blames only her. Making things even more awkward is the fact that Liz is along for the ride, along with Craig's girlfriend, Nina (Sophie Lowe).
Driving down a vast stretch of road, the foursome is approached from behind by a "road train," a tractor trailer pulling two trailers instead of one. They anticipate that the rig will blow past them, but instead, it rams their car. They crash and end up stranded in the middle of the desert. But in the distance, they spot the truck, sitting, waiting in the road. With few options, they approach, ready to fight...but no one's inside.
Did the driver leave? Was there a driver at all? There's more to the vehicle than meets the eye, as a mysterious force within is about to take the campers down a highway to hell.
The End Result
Road Kill (AKA Road Train) has an intriguing premise that evokes "highway horror" flicks like Road Games, The Duel and The Hitcher, but it never takes full advantage of the setup. The plot manages the seemingly impossible feat of being both overly simple and overly confusing. In what should be a cat-and-mouse tale, there are precious few twists, and the plot elements that are included raise questions that go unanswered.
